The Walk of Honour (WofH) was created by Dreamspeakers as a tribute to those Indigenous artists who have blazed trails in the film industry. It is intended to be a lasting legacy to recognize their efforts and hard work at bringing a new understanding to the varied cultures, traditions, languages and artistic expressions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

The Walk of Honour is located at Beaver Hills House Park (105 St & Jasper Ave) in Edmonton’s Downtown. The park was recently renovated with the addition of more amenities and the re-installation of the Walk of Honour on a gabion wall - the plaques were previously installed on the ground, but they sustained damage from snow plows and some of the brass plates were lost. In this session, we invite stakeholders to a conversation about the future of the Walk of Honour, and in particular, a community dialogue about how to approach recent revelations about the identity of an inductee. By the end of the dialogue we hope to create a community consensus and buy-in to support the Walk of Honour into the future - as a living testament to Indigenous excellence, and a dynamic and meaningful site for city visitors and the Indigenous community alike. We will share the history and recent changes at the site and our current plans, then open the discussion in circle format for the community to share.

We will open with a prayer and smudge and endeavor to create a safe space to share views. We understand that some of the issues around identity may be challenging as real harm has been suffered by the community by the actions of those who take up Indigenous space and place but do not carry that history in their bloodline - we ask that all attendees speak and listen with both courage and compassion.
