Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of the Edmonton River Valley, where the past intertwines with the present. Delve into the hidden gems of river valley, including its boreal forest.
Did you know the river valley possesses medicinal plants that are still used by local First Nations and Métis? Join Keith Diakiw as he shares some secrets of these medicines hiding in plain sight.
The journey continues to Edmonton’s famous INIW / River Lot 11 / Indigenous Art Park located on a historic Métis river lot once inhabited by Joseph Macdonald and his family for over three decades during and after the fur trade era. This historical site boasts a legacy that predates the very foundation of Edmonton itself! Today, it serves as a haven where many come to rejuvenate their spirits amidst captivating art installations crafted by local Indigenous artists. These artworks beautifully showcase the connection of Edmonton’s past, present, and a brighter future to come.
Talking Rock Tours’ Edmonton River Valley Discovery Tours include a continuous sharing circle with some Indigenous music and storytelling as Keith Diakiw, a proud Métis and professional geologist, imparts his expertise on Alberta’s fur trade history and geological treasures nestled within a river valley spanning over 20 times the size of New York’s Central Park.
