If you’re contemplating hopping on the long and winding yellow brick road to seeing your book on bookshelves, then join local authors, EPL Featured Writer Aurora Palit and Cathrine Swift, in their session, Burning Down the Velvet Curtain: a No Nonsense Guide to Publishing Paths.

We’ll deep dive into:

  • the two main publishing routes available to authors;
  • how to choose which road is best for your publishing goals; and
  • reveal the real-world life lessons that threatened to throw us off course!

Pitstops include marketing and PR, building your author brand, and making financially smart decisions on your journey.

Aurora Palit
A first generation Bengali-Canadian, Aurora Palit grew up in rural Alberta, where she was always the only South Asian student in her class. Her love of reading began at age four but it wasn’t until high school—when she wandered into the romance section of a bookstore—that she realized happily-ever-afters are her jam.

Aurora is now writing those stories with her own unique brand of humor, perspective, and belief that people of colour deserve love stories too. During her time pursuing a master’s degree in English literature, Aurora was drawn to discourses on diaspora and identity, racism, and multi-generational immigrant experiences; topics she now explores in her writing.

Cathrine Swift
Hitting the milestone of twenty published titles with her name on them this year, Cathrine Swift writes multi-genre fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Sometimes steamy, always richly infused with inclusive romance, responsible representation, and diversity, empowerment, and healing. When she's not lost in her fictional worlds, she is homeschooling her daughter, daydreaming about NYC, or indulging in her love of cinema and popcorn. She’ll never say no to a matcha latte, her favourite trope is enemies to lovers, and her heart beats swiftly—for stories, for the people and words that make life magic, and for love itself.
