Welcome back, Edmonton data community! 🎉 We're thrilled to kick off another exciting event — and this one is a must-attend for anyone working with or curious about data pipelines and workflow orchestration. Whether you're a seasoned data engineer or just starting your journey, we have a fantastic evening lined up for you.

Presentation

🎤 Orchestrating Data Pipelines: An Introduction to Apache Airflow & Modern Data Engineering This session offers a beginner-friendly yet technically rich introduction to modern data engineering and pipeline orchestration. Our speaker will walk us through core concepts of workflow orchestration — including task dependencies, idempotent transformations, conditional data checks, and parameterized execution — before diving into a live, hands-on demonstration. Using the App Store Search API as a practical data source, the demo will show how to build and orchestrate a small but complete end-to-end pipeline using Apache Airflow deployed via Astronomer. You'll also get a tour of Airflow's web UI and see how it can be used to monitor and manage real-world workflows. Whether you're looking to modernize your data stack or simply want to understand what all the Airflow buzz is about, this talk will leave you with concrete knowledge you can apply immediately.

👤 About the Speaker — Cihan Başoğlu Cihan is a data engineer with experience in the mobile gaming and AI industries and he is currently working as a software developer at visorPRO. His background includes work with data pipelines, cloud data platforms, and analytics systems, using technologies such as Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, and Google Cloud.
