Unseen

Run time: approx. 30 mins
Directed by Zach Dafoe
Written and Produced by Ronnie Varewny, Brianna Burd, Ty Perala and Zach Dafoe

Harm reduction doesn’t look like you think it does.

‘Unseen’ follows 3 harm reduction workers in the city of Edmonton as they challenge the expectations and narratives around unhoused community members. Both the city and the people living in its’ streets, when viewed through a compassionate, Queer lens, isn’t scary, dangerous, or malicious, but is actually a world of people, labour, and stories that are simply left … Unseen.

Wildflowers: Queer Youth in the Prairies

Run time: approx. 15 mins
Directed by Mickey Neal
Written and Produced by Kaitlin Neal, Rachel Ball and Mickey Neal

A story about the ways in which 2SLGBTQQIA+ youth and young adults find care and connection in one another first and foremost. The film follows six artists, poets and advocates under 30 from diverse backgrounds that work toward building 3rd spaces using relational, grassroots approaches; Revel, Brock and Nânâhtew from The Cherry Pit, Latifat Busari and Kija Lado from the Grief Collective, as well as Jorja Green. Through their storytelling, we discover that despite the harsh conditions of a rather conservative prairie, 2SLGBTQQIA+ youth continue not only to grow, but thrive and bloom as well.

This is the fourth of five free events in the film series.
