Focusing on the findings of the recently published book, The Politics of Pride Events (2025, Bristol University Press), this seminar examines the shifting global meanings of Pride Events, which intersect with local challenges, histories, and activist practices across different latitudes.

The presentation will discuss the main challenges faced by Pride organizers at a global level, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing hostility towards LGBTQIA+ persons, the role of corporations, the existence of internal fractures within LGBTQIA+ circles, which often lead to the emergence of “Alternative Pride Events,” as well as emerging challenges relating to disability justice and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Francesca Romana Ammaturo is a senior lecturer in sociology and international relations at London Metropolitan University.
