The new exhibition showcases intergenerational practices of printmaking and watercolour. Inuit stencil printmaker Roberta (Apun) Sukayaluk Memogana and third-generation watercolour artist Emily Mosley-Delorme honour their family histories while creating contemporary works that celebrate Inuit and Métis family traditions. For both artists, making art is a family tradition learned from parents and grandparents. Their artwork shares stories, memories, and lived experiences, carrying them forward to those who follow.

Roberta (Apun) Sukayaluk Memogana is an Inuk Printmaker originally from Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories, now based in Edmonton. Raised in a family of artists, hunters, seamstresses and knowledge keepers, she creates vibrant stencil prints inspired by Inuit life and language with reflections on her family's cultural transitions, influenced by her move from Ulukhaktok. Roberta learned to create through the teachings of her parents, Jimmy and Nora Memorana. As an educator, Roberta shares printmaking, Inuinnaqtun, sewing, and traditional skills, carrying Inuit knowledge and culture forward.

Emily Mosley-Delorme is a third-generation watercolour artist who grew up in Lindbergh, Alberta and is based in Edmonton. Drawing on family photographs, personal archives, and remembered landscapes, her paintings explore her Métis family identity, history, and belonging. Her return to watercolour became both an artistic and familial reconnection, linking her practice to the generations of women who painted before her. Through quiet, atmospheric paintings, Mosley-Delorme reveals how watercolour can hold memory while creating space for new expressions of Métis identity, kinship and belonging.

“From the Arctic tundra of Ulukhaktok to the prairies of Treaty 6 Territory, Family Traditions depicts everyday moments that, through artmaking, become extraordinary acts of remembrance, revealing how traditions are not simply inherited, but are continually created through shared experiences,” says Lindsey Bond-Garcia, exhibit curator. Together, Memogana and Mosley-Delorme invite viewers to consider artmaking as living family traditions.
