Discover the working-class stories of Edmontonians who’ve built our city through this downtown walking tour.
You'll learn about:
- Indigenous labour history and the pemmican industry
- Women workers at the Great Western Garment factory
- Immigrant contributions to city infrastructure
- Key strikes and protests, including the amusing 1947 Chocolate Bar Strike
You’ll also get a taste of modern pemmican, see where Edmontonians have worked throughout the river valley, and get to make your own protest signs!
Tour Details:
- Cost: $15 for 2-hour tours, $10 for 1-hour tours
- Free for kids under 12!
- Distance: 2.5-3 kilometers
- Starts and ends at the main entrance of the Royal Alberta Museum (9810 103a Avenue NW)
Accessibility:
- Sidewalks with street crossings, mostly level terrain
- Bathroom access available before the tour at the museum
- Seating on benches, chairs, and stairs available at limited stops. Stops without seating are less than ten minutes long
