Discover the working-class stories of Edmontonians who’ve built our city through this downtown walking tour.

You'll learn about:

  • Indigenous labour history and the pemmican industry
  • Women workers at the Great Western Garment factory
  • Immigrant contributions to city infrastructure
  • Key strikes and protests, including the amusing 1947 Chocolate Bar Strike

You’ll also get a taste of modern pemmican, see where Edmontonians have worked throughout the river valley, and get to make your own protest signs!

Tour Details:

  • Cost: $15 for 2-hour tours, $10 for 1-hour tours
  • Free for kids under 12!
  • Distance: 2.5-3 kilometers
  • Starts and ends at the main entrance of the Royal Alberta Museum (9810 103a Avenue NW)

Accessibility:

  • Sidewalks with street crossings, mostly level terrain
  • Bathroom access available before the tour at the museum
  • Seating on benches, chairs, and stairs available at limited stops. Stops without seating are less than ten minutes long
