Explore and transform recycled and found materials into meaningful works of art with this unique form form of mixed-media journalling!
Discover the art of junk journalling in this hands-on, exploratory workshop. Participants will learn the core techniques and creative possibilities of this unique form of mixed-media journalling, in which everyday, discarded items are transformed into meaningful, personalized works of art.
In the session, you will experiment with a variety of recycled and found materials, including magazines, patterned paper, newspapers, old book pages, product packaging, cardboard, and more. You’ll explore layering, composition, and texture to create visually rich and expressive journal pages.
No prior experience is required, just a willingness to play, explore, and reimagine everyday materials as art. Participants will be provided with journals but are also welcome to bring their own materials including journals, old books, patterned paper, assorted product labels, stickers, or any other materials they would like to use.
This workshop is recommended for ages 16+.
This workshop is a part of ENVIRON: Material Literacy & Repair Initiative, a public programming series focused on waste reduction, repair, and material reuse. This initiative is developed with support from the City of Edmonton through the Waste Reduction and Reuse Grant.
