Hey Edmonton readers (and future readers ), this one’s for you. Whether you’re a lifelong bookworm or someone whose last “reading streak” was a podcast binge, you’re invited to join us at The Sunday Book Club YEG; a cozy, come-as-you-are space for meaningful conversations, good energy, and new connections.

In honor of National Indigenous History Month, our July read is Birdie by Tracey Lindberg. This month, we’re diving into a powerful and deeply reflective story that explores healing, identity, resilience, and the lasting impacts of trauma. Through Birdie’s journey of self-discovery, the novel weaves together Cree teachings, humor, memory, and community, inviting readers to consider what it means to reclaim oneself and find belonging. Rich in culture and heart, Birdie offers an unforgettable exploration of survival, healing, and the strength found in connection.

Our discussion will center on themes of healing, resilience, Indigenous identity, and the transformative power of community. Together, we’ll explore Birdie’s journey toward self-discovery and recovery, examining how the novel blends humor, storytelling, spirituality, and Cree ways of knowing to challenge conventional ideas of wellness and belonging. We’ll also reflect on the importance of connection, cultural knowledge, and the many paths toward healing and self-acceptance.

There’ll be snacks, drinks, laughter, and the kind of discussion that makes you rethink, reflect, and maybe even heal a little.

Come read, sip, snack, and chat your way into something special.
We can’t wait to meet you.

What to expect:

  • Group reflections and open conversation on Birdie.
  • Snacks, drinks, and maybe a few new friends
  • A chance to share your thoughts or just listen and vibe

Why join?

  • Because good books deserve great conversations.
  • Because community doesn’t just happen, you build it.
  • And because you probably need a reason to leave the house that isn’t groceries.
