Although the HBC is now gone, the keen-eyed observer can still see the remnants of the HBC in the river valley and downtown Edmonton. This tour will concentrate on the urban environment created as the HBC transformed from fur trader to retail giant.
Join local historical interpreter, Tim Marriott, for a guided tour of the HBC’s history in Edmonton. The Hudson’s Bay Company created “Edmonton” with the first Fort Edmonton dating back to the 18th century. When Edmonton became a town and then a city, its influence gave shape to how our city developed as an urban space. Although the HBC is now gone, the keen-eyed observer can still see the remnants of the HBC in the river valley and downtown Edmonton. This tour will concentrate on the urban environment created as the HBC transformed from fur trader to retail giant. We will look at and discuss the buildings and people that settled in downtown Edmonton both off the HBC reserve land and on it.
The tour will happen rain or shine, on mostly flat ground. Meeting details will be emailed
