Award winning Edmonton saxophonist and bandleader Dave Babcock presents a loving tribute to a sometimes overlooked instrument in jazz, the baritone saxophone. Audiences have generally heard Dave perform on tenor saxophone but he’s been playing the baritone since his early days and felt it was time the ‘big horn’ got its own time in the spotlight. This quintet show showcases songs made popular by some of the great baritone players in jazz history, Harry Carney, Serge Chaloff, Gerry Mulligan, Leo Parker, Pepper Adams and Ronnie Cuber, featuring music from the swing, cool and hard bop eras.
