For life sciences companies, intellectual property (IP) is not a back-office concern—it's often the foundation of enterprise value, the asset investors underwrite, and the competitive moat that determines whether breakthrough science becomes a successful business.

This interactive workshop, led by Dentons' intellectual property and commercial practitioners, is designed to help founders and early-stage companies take stock of their IP position and identify practical next steps for protecting their IP. Participants will receive a guided workbook and work through it during the session with the support of the Dentons team.

The workbook is structured around a series of foundational questions that every life sciences company should be able to answer clearly, such as:

  • What are you building, and at what stage is your product or service?
  • Who are your users and customers, and what jurisdictions are you targeting?
  • What regulatory process applies to your product or service?
  • Who is contributing to your IP, who owns it, and are the right agreements in place?
  • What names, brands, patents, trade secrets, and other IP assets do you have—and are they properly protected?
  • What are your top IP priorities and immediate action items going forward?

By the end of the session, each participant will have mapped their IP landscape, identified gaps and risks, and outlined priority next steps.

There will also be ample opportunity for Q&A throughout the session, allowing participants to discuss questions and challenges specific to their companies.
