Jacob Rabuka’s latest project features new original music unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Arranged for his newly founded sextet, the music showcases a melding of vocals and sax across a variety of genres and styles. He pulls deep inspiration from the jazz legends of present and past; people such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, Bob Reynolds, Chris Potter, Melissa Aldana, Ben Wendel, as well as some Gospel-based figures like Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross. More recently however, his music has also drawn upon his great love for R&B superstars like Yebba, Victor Franco, Lawrence, and Brasstracks.
Line-up:
Jacob Rabuka – Tenor Sax & Keys
Jessica Singleton – Vocals & Aux Percussion
Nick Lange – Tenor Sax & Keys
Gareth Gilliland – Guitar
Andreas Wegner – Upright & Electric Bass
Braeden Detert – Drums
Listeners should expect to be taken through a journey of vast proportions; one that transports you through worlds both fantastical and familiar. His music is aimed at exploring and unpacking both the great heights and deep sorrows that come innate to the human condition. There is a special focus on the unique feelings associated of what we call youth or innocence and the ways it can be lost and regained as we grow older.
Combining lyrical storytelling and the beautiful colours painted through his instrumental arranging, Jacob’s music has something for everyone. His ultimate goal is to perform in a way that the music might disappear as it envelopes and transforms 1around you.
