Because of its origin, this music is fuelled by the feelings of the places, people and stories that have been vital to my musical and personal perspective, accentuating within the music a palpable sense of freedom, adventure and reverence for both the past and present. The music combines linear, modern jazz compositions in the style of current New York musicians Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross with various traditional and modern Avant-garde aesthetics, pulling from Ambrose Akinmusire, Pharoah Sanders and others. Compositions range from Highly orchestrated, linear forms to minimal and open improvisations, with the unifying goal between each one being a sense of collectivity and improvisational freedom. My goal with this music is to not prescribe too heavily, allowing the written music to serve mainly as a vessel for both the individual and the group as a whole.
