Helmed by saxophonist and composer Jacob Do, each member of the ensemble brings a refined artistic identity, blending their individual styles and expertise to craft a harmonious yet rich layered sonic experience. Drawing inspiration from chamber jazz and contemporary big band traditions, the Octet weaves intricate arrangements with moments of raw, uninhibited expression. With influences ranging from Tadd Dameron to Joe Henderson, the group balances reverence for jazz traditions with a drive to push boundaries.
The Jacob Do Octet thrives at the intersection of structured innovation and artistic freedom. Pieces like I'll Be Around and Fourtune feature their range – from soulful ballads to high-engery, rhythmically intricate compositions, providing a platform for collaborative exploration and
ensuring every performance is a fresh and engaging experience. This innovative approach has made the Jacob Do Octet a standout presence in Alberta's jazz scene, selling out their debut performance at the Yardbird Suite in March 2024. They released their debut EP "Maybe" in May 2025.
