Bringing organizations together to strengthen support for those living with the impacts of brain injury.
In honour of Brain Injury Awareness Month, the Brain Care Centre is hosting a collaborative workshop facilitated by expert Janelle Breese Biagioni a leader in advocacy for a national brain injury strategy. Together, we will explore the intersectionality of brain injuries and how to best support those who need support, meeting them where they're at.
Brain Injuries have many intersections with other vulnerable populations, working together we can offer more holistic support. Some statistics on brain injuries In Canada:
- 50% of Canada's houseless population lives with a brain injury (brain injury can increase the risk of houselessness and also increases the risk acquiring one)

- 20% of people who survive a traumatic brain injury will develop a new problem with substance use
- 35-80% of women affected by IPV experience symptoms of traumatic brain injury
- 1 in 5 Canadians aged 65 or older fall and older adults account for 29% of all head injury hospitalizations in Canada
- 67% of veterans have a traumatic brain injury (US stat) and for many, symptoms of brain injury and PTSD can be confused
