Bookstore owner and author Brandi Morpurgo sets the record straight. Whether you are the writer, the publisher, or the bookstore owner, you are in the business of bookselling. Communicating the reality of these endeavors is critical for separating the social media fandom expectations from the true grit of the task.
This workshop defines each business's role before the book goes into readers hands. Writing and selling books is not a glamorous celebrity party like TikTok suggests; it's the Hunger Games and only the tenacious and scrappy will survive.
Edmonton Public Library writer-in-residence, Alexis Marie Chute, will facilitate this fascinating discussion with Brandi Morpurgo. Join them for this inside peak into the lifespan of a book—and ultimately how to sell more while having fun in the process.

About Brandi Morpurgo:
Brandi Morpurgo gets it done. A mother of two remarkable women, and the wife to one Star Trek-lovin' man, Brandi has been a bibliophile her whole life. In 2018, prompted by an old dream saved on a slip of paper in a journal, Brandi launched Daisy Chain Book Co., Alberta’s first bookshop on wheels, and then opened two brick and mortar bookshops in Edmonton and Beaumont. Widely respected for her innovation and sassy “no matter what” approach, Brandi’s podcast, "The Bookshop Chronicles" and social media following continues to grow. She has been the subject of multiple television and radio interviews about her unique business and a guest on five business podcasts in the United States and Canada. Connecting with customers and fans all over the world, she hosted book clubs, writing groups, book launches, and unique bookish events, changing the landscape for independent bookshops in Alberta's capital city. She currently sits on the Board of the 124th St Business Association, and the Canadian Independent Booksellers Association Board. Brandi's memoir, It All Started With a Booktruck: A Memoir of Books, Badassery, and Breaking Boundaries about her booktruck adventure has been written, and getting it on her bookshop's shelves is the next ambition on her Why Not? Bucket List.
