Join us for Waste Free Edmonton's 4th Annual Sustainability Social. This year's theme is Growing Your Own Food.

If you are looking to reduce your waste and connect with like-minded Edmontonians, look no further! Waste Free Edmonton is hosting our 4th Sustainability Social. Let’s connect and reduce our footprint together. Your ticket includes delicious vegetarian appetizers as well as coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Additional beverages will be available for purchase at the bar.

Hosted at The Bell in Scona, you can expect an evening packed with passionate experts and hands on activities, all in the name of sustainability! While the event begins at 6PM, doors will open at 5:45, giving you a little bit of extra time to settle in if needed.

Part 1
This event functions in two parts - the first part, we hear from an expert panel of speakers. This year's focus is on growing your own food with presentations beginning at 6:30 PM. We will hear from:

  • Waste Free Edmonton's Co-founder, Melissa G, will start us off with an overview of Waste Free Edmonton's mission and current campaigns
  • Rebecca and Jo Mary from New Grocery Movement will provide some background on today's grocery context, gardening as a solution, and Indigenous food sovereignty
  • Steve from Young Agrarians will speak to urban farming options, apprenticeship programs and lawn-to-food initiatives of his organization
  • Ilan from the Alberta Native Bee Council will cover native plants and pollinators and ways you can support native pollinators

Part 2

Activities will begin following the presentations, around 7:30 PM.

Following the speakers, we will have time to mingle, build community, and continue the conversation. Enjoy our free activities and make some new friends! This year, our activities include:

- Silk Screen a previously loved Tee with the help of an artist from SNAP (See Tips Below)
- Create a seed packet to be directly sown in your garden with New Grocery Movement.
- Plan and map out your own garden with the help of Master Gardener, Aida Mustapic
- Learn more about local pollinators with Alberta Native Bee Council

We cannot wait to see you at this incredible event! This is sure to be a fabulous evening of learning, sharing, and creating.

TIP: Bringing your own Tee or Tote? We recommend something that isn't too textured, and keeping to a solid, lighter colour. Don't have anything in your closet that fits the bill? Don't worry! We will have a selection of previously loved Tees, purchased from our local gem Blenderz Garment Recyclers.
