Shumka: Back to Our Roots  is a vibrant, high-energy performance that celebrates Ukrainian dance by returning to what matters most: movement, music, and regional tradition.

Drawing from Shumka’s rich performance history, the program features dances from across Ukraine that reveal how geography, history, and community shape rhythm, style, and physical expression, from grounded village steps to virtuosic ensemble work.

Shumka: Back to Our Roots  places the focus squarely on the dancers themselves, highlighting their athleticism, precision, musicality, and collective energy. Engaging, accessible, and exhilarating, this up-close performance offers a dynamic introduction to Ukrainian culture and the artistry of one of Canada’s leading dance companies.

Featuring Alberta performances in Calgary at The GRAND YYC, Medicine Hat at Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, and Edmonton at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium for both a student matinee and an evening show.
