Welcome to Elevate Healthcare, where healthcare needs intersect with innovation in education. With a foundation built on expertise and forward-thinking vision, we're dedicated to elevating proficiency and prioritizing patient safety with every solution.

In this episode of Simulation in Action, Associate Chair for Simulation and Interprofessional Education Lisa George, Simulation Technologist Thomas Waring, and Veterinary Technology Chair Nichole Boutilier share how they’ve grown IPE from a small pilot into a centralized program embedded across 20+ allied health and veterinary programs. They’ll walk through the IPE framework, from intentional scenario design and debriefing structures to large‑scale experiences like a mass‑casualty incident that brings together paramedics, firefighters, medical students, veterinary learners, and more.

You’ll also see how CAMS weaves community and patient partners into simulation design, uses awards and governance to sustain IPE culture, and even leverages major IPE events to support health‑tech innovation and applied research.

Key takeaways:

-Design intentional IPE simulations that make collaboration the only way to “solve” the scenario, from simple three‑objective cases to complex mass‑casualty events.

-Centralize IPE across programs with shared frameworks, curriculum committees, and survey‑driven QA/QI cycles that keep experiences meaningful and current.

-Bring community, veterinary, and patient partners into sim as true co‑designers to create culturally grounded, authentic scenarios for diverse learners.

-Turn flagship IPE events into innovation platforms by re‑using complex setups to support health‑tech product testing and applied research without overburdening staff.
