Join Fort Edmonton Park and the City Arts Centre for a four-week writing course at the Indigenous Peoples Experience.
The course is guided by Edmonton’s former Poet Laureate, Mary Pinkoski, in partnership with an Indigenous Interpreter. Together, they will lead participants through thoughtful prompts and discussions centered on connection to place, the interconnectedness of all living beings, and the spirit and intent of Treaty 6.
Each week, sessions will take place in different areas of the Indigenous Peoples Experience, reflecting seasonal perspectives and teachings. Weather permitting, portions of the class may also take place outdoors.
As we approach the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6 in August 2026, this course offers space to reflect, learn, and create. By the end of the program, participants will have developed a personal journal of place-based writing and a deeper understanding of what it means to live as a treaty person.
No prior writing experience is needed. This course is designed to be welcoming and supportive, with guidance to help you write in whatever form feels natural to you.
- Your registration includes 4 weeks of access to Fort Edmonton Park’s Indigenous Peoples Experience, with sessions delivered as a private group experience within the exhibit space.
All profit from this program goes directly back into supporting Indigenous Experiences at Fort Edmonton Park.
