Our annual event is a celebration of members and some of the amazing work they’ve produced over the last 24 months. With something for everyone including documentaries, narratives, music videos, animation and more, FAVA FEST 2026 will bring the unique visions, perspectives and stories from FAVA members together under one festival. The awards will be presented at the FAVA Gala on March 27th 2026.

What is FAVA FEST?

FAVA FEST is FAVA’s own celebration of film, video, and media art created by our membership. It includes screenings of our member’s work, educational programs, awards, and so much more.

FAVA FEST is the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta’s annual celebration of the remarkable film, video, and media artwork created by our membership. This unique film festival shines a spotlight on the depth and diversity of talent within our community, offering a platform for filmmakers and media artists to share their work with peers, industry professionals, and the public.

This year’s festival will feature three public screenings of selected film, video, and media art. Educational programs including workshops, panels, and artist talks. Cash Awards recognizing excellence across multiple categories, and community gatherings and special events.

FAVA FEST is a space to celebrate your creative achievements, support emerging voices, and engage in meaningful conversations. Whether you’re a creator, collaborator, or audience member, we invite you to join us in celebrating the spirit of FAVA and innovation of independent media art in Alberta.

What is FAVA GALA?

FAVA GALA is the culmination of our festival as we toast our members’ achievements in excellence. The FAVA GALA is an awards show with a red carpet where we invite members to dress up and come celebrate with us as we hand out thousands of dollars in cash awards and prizes. This year, in addition to our standard cash awards and prizes, we will be giving out a unique prize, the Distribution Prize. This is a jury-selected cash prize designed to go to an outstanding film to cover submission fees and further distribution.

Please note that while we accept work created over the past 24 months, only work that has never been submitted to FAVA FEST before can be submitted. This includes work that was submitted but not accepted.
