SOUND OFF is Canada’s national festival dedicated to the Deaf performing arts

SOUND OFF is dedicated to making theatre accessible for both Deaf and hearing audiences and celebrating the stories and talents of Deaf performers from across Canada, as well as the beauty of American Sign Language.

SOUND OFF is pleased to present both live and in-person performances and events this year and will continue to offer a diverse range of online performances and events for those outside Edmonton.

Our 10th annual festival brings together 5 mainstage performances with artists from Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.

The 6-day event will be offering a wide range of activities and events for audiences participate in. These include panel discussions with Deaf artists, Deaf-led workshops and staged readings by Deaf playwrights.

Also featuring the return of our ever-popular improv with Edmonton’s Rapid Fire Theatre for the hilarious Maestro: SOUND OFF Edition (online) and Theatresports: SOUND OFF Edition (live) where hearing and Deaf improvisors go head-to-head for a battle of improv supremacy!

Trailblazing!  As Canada's national Deaf theatre festival, SOUND OFF builds upon the rich legacy of Deaf performers and Deaf performing groups in Canada. SOUND OFF brings together Deaf performers from across the country for a festival dedicated to the Deaf performing arts.

Even Bolder! Our 10th edition offers 5 mainstage shows, improv, salon discussions, staged readings, talkbacks, and workshops, offering something for everyone!

Accessible! All performances and SOUND OFF events are accessible for both Deaf and hearing audiences. Most shows are in American Sign Language (ASL) and all shows will have interpretation for both languages where necessary.

Affordable! SOUND OFF is dedicated towards making theatre affordable for all audiences. In addition to free events throughout the festival, all mainstage shows are Pay-What-You-Can.

Come join us as we crank up the intensity during SOUND OFF's six-day extravaganza as North America’s only annual Deaf theatre festival.

Come experience a unique theatre showcase unlike any other offering performances that are rich, dynamic and evocative for all audiences!
