Join us as we celebrate Black History Month with children, preteens, and teens (ages 7–17) from Edmonton's African/Black descent community

A youth‑centred event in celebration of Black History Month. This program brings together Chess & STEM education with cultural celebration to engage kids, preteens, and teens (ages 7–17) from Edmonton's African‑descent communities.

What to Expect

A. Chess Tournament

  • Only 12 spots available — pre‑registration required
  • Format: 3 rounds, Swiss‑style pairing with clock
B. STEM Innovation Zone
  • Only 8 spots available — pre‑registration required
  • Activities: Beginner coding challenges & algorithm puzzles
C. Cultural Showcase
  • History of Black communities in Alberta
  • Tribute to historical Black inventors and innovators

D. Awards Presentation

  • Presented by the Africa Centre
E. Food & Refreshments
  • Light meals and snacks provided
