With a range that spans intimate memoirs to pulling apart pop culture, the essay is one of the most exciting forms of writing of the 21st century.

From finding inspiration to playing with structure, balancing the personal touch and making arguments that sing, this workshop will explore what makes a good essay. You’ll learn what kinds of topics work (and which don't) in essay format, and what helps writers craft the unique insights readers crave from creative non-fiction.

The library is pleased to welcome David Berry as our 2026 Writer in Residence! David will be with us from January through June, sharing his expertise through group programs and one-on-one consultations.
