Why does misinformation spread so fast? Join U of A professor and author Timothy Caulfield in a provocative discussion about how and why it happens, the role of ideology and polarization, and what solutions can help tackle this enormous challenge.
Polarization. Division. Distrust.
In an era of social media echo chambers and fractured politics, the need for spaces that foster thoughtful, respectful dialogue has never been more urgent. Universities have long been places for this debate, discovery and democratic engagement. Today, their role is under greater scrutiny than ever.
On October 15, join Jared Wesley (Professor of Political Science) and Moin Yahya (Professor of Law) for a compelling discussion on how higher education can sustain democracy. They’ll explore how universities have advanced pluralism and civic life, as well as moments when their influence has been challenged.
Hosted by President Bill Flanagan, this discussion will highlight the U of A’s role in Alberta’s democracy and introduce the Peter Lougheed School of Politics and Democracy — a new commitment to building informed, engaged, and inclusive citizens.
