Born in Jaffa, Palestine, Intessar moved to Kuwait, where Jasmin was born, as a young bride, and later to Canada. Jasmin's memoir tells of her family's history in Palestine, their displacement from their home and how they made a new life in Kuwait, Egypt and Canada.
