About Seeing and Being Seen: The female figure is an enduring subject for artists, endlessly fascinating and controversial. This exhibition explores the way women’s bodies have been represented in art as muses, mothers, lovers and friends, while countering stereotypes and thinking about the changing role of women in society. Recent acquisitions prompted further research on the representation of women in our collection, particularly how women artists choose to represent women.
