Cooking workshops exploring African culinary traditions for healthy ageing

Good health begins with good nutrition, and maintaining a balanced diet becomes more important with age.

Africa Centre's Seniors Well-being and Engagement Program presents Elder Eats, an interactive cooking series celebrating the rich flavours of African heritage while embracing healthy aging.

Through three hands-on sessions, participants will:

  • Adapt traditional African recipes to enhance nutrition
  • Explore balanced meals, from vegetarian dishes to finger foods and traditional African drinks
  • Connect with community over shared stories and heritage

Sessions:

  • May 27 – Traditional African Dishes: Discover classic African meals and explore healthier or vegetarian adaptations.
  • June 6 – Chai & Traditional Drinks: Learn to prepare and taste a variety of traditional beverages, including chai, hibiscus tea, ginger beer, and tamarind juice.
  • June 13 – Snacks & Finger Foods: Create nutritious, shareable snacks inspired by African culinary traditions.

Join us for a joyful celebration of food as memory, nourishment, and a powerful tool for healthy ageing.
