We aim to explore the persistent challenges women face in policing and leadership, framed through the lens of feminist leadership theory and their own experiences in a field where change has been painfully slow.

Despite years of discussions, initiatives, and policies designed to advance gender equality, many of the prevalent issues 10 or even 20 years ago remain firmly in place today.

Suggestions include examining why progress has stalled or how initiatives haven't been successful in culture change and how entrenched power structures within policing continue to limit meaningful advancement.

Possible Topics for Discussion May Include:

  • Power and Leadership in Policing: How traditional, hierarchical models of leadership have resisted change and contributed to the ongoing gender gap in senior positions.
  • The Persistence of Inequality: An honest reflection on how issues such as harassment, lack of promotion opportunities, and exclusion from specialized units remain prevalent despite decades of attention.
  • Feminist Leadership in Action: A discussion on how feminist leadership principles, which emphasize collaboration, inclusivity, and shared power, could transform leadership models in policing.
  • Barriers to Change: Why cultural and systemic challenges continue to undermine efforts for equity and how leadership often replicates the status quo.
  • The Path Forward: Exploring actionable strategies to dismantle barriers, promote equity, and create space for diverse leadership styles that foster inclusive and effective policing environments.
