Unleash your creativity using just your mobile device and learn the art of filmmaking from industry experts.

Want to learn how to create compelling content for social media platforms? Have an idea for a short film but don't know where to start? Planning on taking part in our 48hr Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge? Then these workshops are for you!

The Edmonton Short Film Festival is pleased to offer this FREE filmmaking workshop on Saturday, March 15 at the King's University. Doors open at 10:00AM for check-in. The classes will also be live streamed with subtitles – no recording.

This educational day prepares all novice and intermediate filmmakers for the 48 Hour Mobile Device Film Challenge on May 23 – 25, 2025.

The first class will be from 10:30AM to 12:00PM. In this class beginning and emerging filmmakers learned storytelling and technical techniques for shooting a two-minute movie on a smart phone or tablet in under 48 hours. The seminar is instructed by award-winning filmmaker Daniel Foreman.

A free hot lunch will be served from 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Choices included vegetarian options.

The second class is from 1:00PM to 2:30PM. This class will help you to take your project files from being inside a mobile device to living online on YouTube. Using simple and easy to understand steps you will learn how to take footage from a mobile device to adding sound effects, music, colour grading and credits.

The FREE 48 Hour Mobile Device Filmmaking Challenge will be held on May 23-25, 2025. Pre-registered participants will receive preliminary information about the event and then will receive complete details on Friday, May 23 at 6:00 pm. This important email will include full contest rules and the secret elements. Registration details for the Challenge will be coming soon.

Films that meet the criteria for the Challenge will be screened at the Film Expo on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

ALL OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE TO RESIDENTS OF ALBERTA.
