This workshop is for actors who would like to deepen their practice and further their knowledge in performing theatrical intimacy. We will cover a lot of trauma-informed theory and practical work that aims to empower performers by giving them tools, vocabulary, and a chance to practice implementing the best practices of performing staged intimacy.

This class will cover:

  • the basic principles of consent and boundaries for auditions, the rehearsal room, and the show run
  • models for how to balance self-advocacy and personal responsibility when navigating the stories and characters actors embody
  • fundamental knowledge about trust, power, safety and the “body/brain/heart” responses to performed intimacy on stage
  • tips and tricks for communicating with directors and stage managers about performed intimacy
  • opportunities to implement theory work through exercises that include physical touch, “clinical”, prescribed choreography, and emotional intention
  • choreographic “language” tools to further your own vocabulary in rehearsals and deepen your process as an actor
