Though the 2013 Wetland Policy was a leap forward in terms of wetland conservation and management in Alberta, many capacity gaps leave municipalities and other groups at a loss when trying to implement actions towards wetland conservation and restoration.

This presentation will discuss capacity gaps related to wetland management in Alberta, as gathered through a collaborative working group, and introduce you to the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance’s Strategy to Improve Wetland Management in the North Saskatchewan River Watershed. The presentation will delve into the process behind building the Strategy, how the Strategy aims to fill capacity gaps, and discuss the need for more concerted conservation and restoration efforts from a multi-stakeholder and multi-jurisdictional perspective to increase the amount of wetland area, improve wetland condition, and enhance ongoing wetland management.
