The Rose Campaign is a cornerstone of YWCA Edmonton’s work to prevent violence, support recovery, and build a future free from gender-based violence. This year, in partnership with NAIT, we mark the solemn 35th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre at École Polytechnique with an unforgettable Rose Campaign Launch fundraising event on November 25.

This special fundraising event will feature limited edition tote bags, available for purchase while quantities last, with curated products and services from local women-led businesses. Attendees can also participate in an on-site raffle with exciting prizes. Light refreshments will be served, and a cash bar will also be available.

Gender-based violence is not just a women’s issue; it’s a societal issue that affects all of us. Men play a crucial role in challenging the systems that perpetuate violence and advocating for change. We encourage you to bring the men in your life to this important event. Let’s work together to create a future where violence is no longer tolerated, by involving everyone in the conversation.

Join us for this powerful conversation and be part of a movement for change. Together, we can help end gender-based violence.

About Nathalie Provost

For the first time outside of Montreal, Nathalie Provost, survivor of the massacre and a leading advocate against violence, will speak about her remarkable journey. This exclusive Fireside Chat with YWCA Edmonton CEO Katherine O'Neill offers an unparalleled opportunity to hear Nathalie’s story of survival, strength, and her ongoing efforts to create a safer, stronger society for all.

On December 6, 1989, a gunman targeted women at École Polytechnique, killing 14 women and injuring many others. Nathalie was shot four times in the head and leg as she bravely attempted to reason with the attacker. Despite her injuries, she helped guide others to safety, advising them to play dead to survive. Her courage that day earned her Canada’s Medal of Bravery, and her unwavering commitment to justice and equity has made a lasting impact.

During this powerful conversation, Nathalie will reflect on her personal journey of recovery and advocacy, from her return to studies just weeks after the tragedy to becoming the first woman to represent students on Polytechnique’s Board of Directors. Her enduring dedication to preventing violence and advancing equity will inspire everyone in attendance.

This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from a woman whose bravery and perseverance have shaped the national conversation on gender-based violence. Not only will this event honour the lives lost and survivors of the Montreal Massacre, but it will also support YWCA Edmonton’s critical work in violence prevention and recovery programs.
