If you are considering building a backyard home, and want to know if it would be right for you, this workshop is a must. This event covers everything from rules and regulations, City bylaws, and costs, to challenges, the building process, and property analysis.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS City of Edmonton on Garden SuitesPresenting the latest Backyard Housing rules & regulations. You'll learn what types of lots can accommodate a Backyard Home, the permitting process, and the exciting approved changes to rules and regulations.

Design Principles & Considerations for Backyard HousingWe will be providing a brief overview of design considerations for garden suites, including how to design a barrier free suite (fully accessible), so that you can tap into the City's incentives.
Backyard Home Site Analysis and Zoning InformationWe'll take you through an example lesson looking at a Real Property Report (RPR), and lay out considerations for where a Backyard Home can be located on that lot. We will also identify things to watch out for and what properties are the best fit for a Backyard Home. Finally, we'll show you how to look up your own property, and see any information such as neighbourhood overlays, or parking reduction zones.
We encourage you to bring your own Real Property Report, if you have one, so that you can work through it with us.
