All are welcome to share food and conversation, followed by Sissy Thiessen Kootenayoo speaking on "Two-Spirit Identities"
Sissy will present an inclusion-based information session on gender and sexually diverse and Indigenous folks, on historical info, on how Two Spirit Indigenous peoples were at the forefront of their communities before colonization and how that’s changed, traditional roles historically and currently. And the importance of inclusion and acceptance.
Sissy Thiessen Kootenayoo is a Treaty 6 Nakota Sioux Cree & German Indigenous cultural educator, Powwow dancer, emcee, journalist and performing artist whose family is from Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and Steinbach, Manitoba. They were the first Indigenous and female-presenting person to host the New Years Eve celebration at Churchill Square in 2022 and their teachings have been offered all over Turtle Island, including: New York, San Francisco, Montana, Edmonton Folk Fest and more!
