Chiseled is an exciting International carving competition that takes place over two days where carvers produce fantastical, gravity-defying ice sculptures.

Activate Arts Alberta (formally Ice on Whyte) is pleased to announce the return of Chiseled - Edmonton's International Ice Carving Competition to the ICE District Plaza January 18 – 20, 2024. Seven two-person teams have 34 hours to create magnificent 15-block ice sculptures. The scale, talent, and precision are something to behold.

Each block is 1 m X 50 cm X 25 cm (40" X 20" X 10") and weighs 135 kg (297 lbs). The pieces are judged on artistic merits and technical expertise with the winner announced on Jan. 20th. This year's winner will receive an invitation from the World Ice Carving Association to be a part of the International Ice Festival Madrid-Torrejon for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

You can watch these winter masterpieces come to life by visiting the ICE District Plaza on the competition days according to the following schedule: - Thursday January 18 - 8am to 10pm - stacking blocks and carving begins - Friday January 19 - 8am to 10pm - carving day - Saturday January 20 - 8am - 2pm - finishing touches and details.

Any weather above zero degrees temperature may alter this schedule.
