Experience the Backyard Betties live at the Black Box Theatre as part of Spruce's Sunday Series.

Calgary's Backyard Betties are a vibrant folk/Americana band celebrated for heartfelt songwriting, rich harmonies and engaging live performances. Blending the spirit of roots music with clever storytelling and melodic depth, Backyard Betties deliver an authentic sound that connects with audiences.

At the helm is award-winning songwriter Nancy Laberge, known for her sharp wit, humour and emotionally resonant lyrics. Pip Hazell brings powerful harmonies, Mark Cassano adds expressive lead guitar, and Alexandra Danicic rounds out the band's sound on fiddle and bass. Together, they bring stories of love, life and loss to the stage with warmth, humour and plenty of personality.

Winners of the 2024 YYC Music Award for Folk Recording of the Year for The High, the Backyard Betties followed that success with two more YYC Music Award nominations in 2025 and a new album in 2026.
