Learn the basics of hand embroidery and explore foundational stitches while creating a playful Halloween-themed "Floral Bats".

Bats for spooky season? Fang-tastic! Join Carley Pettitt of Nest Embirdery to work through her most popular kit, "Floral Bats." Participants will learn everything from separating embroidery strands to the (often) feared French knot stitch. All materials are included for an afternoon of fun and myth-busting. This workshop is great for fibre-curious beginners and ages 8+.

About your instructor:   Carley Pettitt is a self-taught textile artist specializing in hand embroidery. Born in Edmonton and raised on the coast of Vancouver Island, Carley Pettitt has always felt close to art and the wildlife around her. Deciding to focus on her passion for wildlife, Carley received a bachelor's degree from the University of Alberta with a Specialization in Animal Biology in 2012 and pursued a career in zoology. Throughout that journey, she discovered a love for education and wildlife conservation and in 2019, she picked up an embroidery needle and has never looked back.

A note about this workshop: We're happy to offer this workshop at a reduced cost thanks to funding from the City of Edmonton's Downtown Action Fund, which helps us bring more hands-on craft experiences to downtown Edmonton.

The fee for this workshop has been subsidized through this funding and does not reflect the full cost of developing and delivering a workshop like this. We're grateful to the artists who share their time, knowlege, and skills with our community, and we encourage you to follow their work and explore the other workshops, events, and creative projects they offer throughout the year. Workshops offered independently by artists may be priced differently to reflect the time, preparation, materials, and other costs involved in making them possible.

Thank you for supporting the artists who make these experiences possible!
