When the Capilano Community League saw what happened at last year’s Apple Cider Celebration across Edmonton, they wanted in. They reached out because they wanted their community to know: the apples on your street and in your yard don’t have to go to waste. There’s something better to do with them.

What Families Can Expect

Your kids power the press.

Children take turns pedalling our Apple Annihilator, a pedal-powered apple crusher that mashes fruit into pulp ready for pressing. Then the whole family helps squeeze that pulp into fresh cider they taste right there on the grounds.

There will be hands-on stations for fruit preservation, cider sampling, and an orchard blessing ceremony rooted in the tradition of celebrating the harvest.

Arrive by Bike

Capilano is one of the most accessible spots in the city for cyclists. The river valley trail network leads directly to the community league grounds, making this a natural day-trip destination for families who want to ride in, press some cider, and ride home with a story.

Got Apples? Bring a Tote or Two

This cider doesn’t press itself. One 25L tote holds about 20 pounds of apples. Whether they’re from your own tree, a neighbour’s yard, or a backyard bounty you’ve been unsure what to do with, bring them along and we’ll press them together.

Meet the Hosts: Capilano Community League

The Capilano Community League has served this river valley neighbourhood for over 65 years. They run skating, tennis, swimming, fitness programs, and a playschool, and they maintain the grounds and hall that anchor community life on the east side of the river valley.

Their hall looks out over the river valley through picture windows that frame one of the best views in the city. Their grounds sit next to Capilano Elementary School, a relationship that dates back to the league’s founding.

They are part of SECLA, a network of eleven community leagues in central southeast Edmonton working together to build stronger, more connected neighbourhoods.
