Newsletters just work. Studies show that for every dollar invested in a newsletter, it can return up to $35. But artists are like everyone in 2026: Bombarded by social media platforms that compete for our attention. Many artists are likely convinced that to make a name you need to make a splash on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.

Many are therefore likely leaving the humble newsletter that arrives in the humble inbox out of the marketing and storytelling tools they use to grow their reach.

That’s a mistake.

In a one-hour workshop, newsletter expert Tim Querengesser will guide participants through the basics of newsletters and wow them with some stats that show their effectiveness. Tim will help explain the basics of newsletters, how to set one up, what to put in it, and then run through common technical challenges in maintaining one. Tim will also show why newsletters build the sort of audience and community for an artist that other marketing platforms never will. He will also show how artists can use newsletters to tell the sort of story that drives attention, engagement, and ultimately, the ability to survive pursuing their craft.

To participate in this one-hour workshop you do not need a newsletter. You should come, however, after having read an example of an arts newsletter — the Edmonton Arts Council newsletter, Edmonton Art Club newsletter, or Edify’s Visual Arts newsletter.
