Music from L.n. baba

l.n. baba is the moniker of Edmonton-based chansonnier, Keanan Swan-Azmon. The name is borrowed from a real-estate agent whose signs were ubiquitous on bus benches in Keanan’s hometown of Medicine Hat in the early 2010s. Over time, however, the name has come to shape the project’s songs, which often transport the listener to various spaces and demonstrate a keen eye for the characters that occupy them. The music features intricate guitar melodies, budget synths and drum machines, and l.n.'s distinct baritone, all filtered through a warm, lo-fi lens. In 2019 Edmonton labels Mangled Tapes and Double Lunch Records co-released l.n.’s first album, Rubber Eye. The album - written, performed, and recorded alone in various bedrooms and basements - is an intimate experience. But a close listen reveals plenty of wit and word-play as well. The album received airplay on CJSR, the U of A campus radio station, and topped the station's charts in June of 2019.

Readings from Capital City Press Authors:

Carly Olafson (she/her) was born and raised in rural Alberta and now calls Edmonton home. She loves skiing, camping, and cats, and is learning to find joy in sharing her writing with the world.

Erica To is an Edmonton-based writer and producer whose work explores identity, reinvention, and the quiet courage it takes to explore new paths. Her writing has appeared in MUSe, MacEwan University’s peer-reviewed student journal, and Nature Alberta, and her documentary short film received Best Student Film award at MacEwan’s Documentary Film Festival. Drawing on a technical writing background, she is drawn to stories that highlight overlooked voices, the community changemakers, entrepreneurs, and immigrants that shape her city.

Art from Capital City Artists:

Karen's Ami Goodies discovered her love for crocheting in 2018 and hasn’t put the hook down since. Through Kami Goodies, she creates handmade amigurumi with a focus on thoughtful details and approachable charm. Each piece is crafted to bring a bit of joy to its new home. You can find her creations at Makers at West Edmonton Mall.
