Maki Happy Comedy Jam
Wednesday, July 8, 2026
8:00pm to 9:30pm
Part of: Grindstone Comedy Festival
8
For the first time ever, Maki Happy Comedy Jam is teaming up with the iconic Grindstone Comedy Festival for a special one-night comedy event at Kinshi Rinji. Two of Edmonton’s strongest comedy communities are joining forces for a night packed with big energy, festival talent, and nonstop laughter.
Every Wednesday, Maki Happy fills Kinshi Rinji with electric crowds and some of the hardest laughs in the city. On July 8, that signature Maki Happy chaos collides with Grindstone Comedy Festival heat — creating a midweek show unlike anything else in Edmonton. Expect the city’s best comics, surprise festival guests, and a room that’s always buzzing.
HOST – Heg Christian
Heg Christian is a rising star Filipino-Canadian comedian from Edmonton, known for his high-energy, quick, playful crowd interactions and hilarious stories about growing up Filipino in Canada. His comedy jumps from relationships to everyday chaos, always keeping the room locked in and laughing. He’s performed at the Colour Me Comedy Festival, adding to his growing list of accomplishments. Off stage, Heg is the creator and host of two of Edmonton’s hottest stand-up comedy shows — Maki Happy Comedy Jam and Punchline Comedy.
HEADLINER – Katie Yoner
Katie Yoner (she/her) has toured across Canada in cities including Toronto, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and more, but her favourite place to perform is sweet, sweet Edmonton! She was featured in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Comedy Festival and was a finalist in Corus Entertainment’s $10,000 Funniest Canadian Contest and currently runs Comedy Underdog, Canada’s longest-running open mic comedy show. Katie is also a mainstage improviser with Rapid Fire Theatre and Grindstone’s 11 O’Clock Number and tours her Sterling Award-winning comedy show, Rat Academy, in which she plays one of the last rats left in Alberta. Her jokes have been described as energetic and off-putting, and will be sure to leave you giggling and gnawing on the wooden lip of the stage.
