A community welcome after a 1,600 km journey from Yellowknife to Edmonton raising awareness for children with chronic illness.

The Ride

In June 2026, Kira Young is cycling 1,600 km from Yellowknife to Edmonton, retracing the long trips she had to make as a child to access medical care.

This is more than an endurance ride. It’s a call for change.

Learn more about the journey here.

Why this matters

Across Canada:

  • Thousands of children live with serious rheumatic diseases
  • Many must leave their communities for care
  • Some face delays that lead to lifelong harm

For families in northern and remote regions, getting care can mean days of travel, time away from home, and major stress .

About the cause

This ride supports Cassie + Friends, which helps:

  • Families navigate care
  • Improve early diagnosis
  • Fund research and advocacy
  • Reduce isolation for kids and parents

The Edmonton Event

Join us to welcome Kira as she completes her journey.

What to expect:

  • Community ride into the city (optional)
  • Welcome celebration at Hawrelak Park, starting at 5:30 and featuring the Dawg Gone It Food Truck + Made By Marcus Ice Cream
  • Short remarks and storytelling
  • Opportunity to meet Kira and supporters
  • Fundraising and awareness activities

Who should attend

  • Cyclists of all levels
  • Families and community members
  • Healthcare advocates
  • Anyone who believes access to care should not depend on where you live

Ride with Kira

Not everyone can ride 1,600 km — but anyone can take part.

Communities across Canada are organizing rides of:

  • 1 km
  • 16 km
  • 160 km

Edmonton is showing up with a welcome ride and celebration.

Support the ride

Donations help ensure:

  • Kids get support faster
  • Families are not alone
  • Care becomes more accessible across Canada
