A timely presentation and Q&A with bestselling author John Vaillant, followed by a reception, as a part of the Elbows Up for Climate Summit

Join us for a timely presentation with bestselling author John Vaillant, whose multi-award-winning Fire Weather offers a powerful lens into our rapidly changing relationship with fire—and the fossil fuel systems fueling it.

As communities across Canada face intensifying wildfires and climate-related disasters, Vaillant’s work provides essential insight for all of us navigating this new reality. Fire Weather is both a gripping narrative and a deeply researched analysis of the forces shaping what many are calling our new “century of fire.”

After the keynote, Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland, and former Montréal mayor Valérie Plante will join former Toronto Mayor David Miller for a panel discussion, facilitated by former Edmonton mayor Don Iveson to take your questions.

Following a talk and Q&A, join us for an informal reception to meet other local elected leaders deeply passionate about keeping their communities safe in the face of changing climate realities.

This afternoon event is a part of a full-day Elbows Up for Climate Summit on June 4: an urgent convening of mayors and councillors from across the country on how we can collectively protect our communities from climate disaster and rebuild. If you are a local elected leader and would like to join the morning sessions, please register here.

About the speaker:

John Vaillant is an internationally acclaimed author and journalist whose writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, National Geographic, and The Walrus. About Elbows Up for Climate:
Elbows Up for Climate is a growing movement of nearly 300 mayors, councillors and local leaders, representing more than half of all Canadians. We are advocating for clean nation-building projects that protect us from the dual threats of climate change and American trade wars. Join us in our calls for ambitious climate action that makes us safer, stronger and independent.
