We're celebrating with a mayoral declaration of May 31 as Women's Freedom to Cycle in Edmonton Day, a cargobike play date, followed by a screening of the acclaimed indie film "Women Don't Cycle" by Manon Brulard, exhibit by local artist Jill Thomson, and insights about Edmonton's active mobility from University of Alberta researcher Genevieve Montemurro.

Schedule of events:

  • Let's Bike There cargobike families will be gathering at Garneau Park, for a play date ending at 12:30 PM (start time TBD).

  • Declaration of May 31 as "Women's Freedom to Ride Day in Edmonton" by Mayor Knack

  • Films at Garneau Cinema: Several shorts and Women Don't Cycle, 1:00 PM showing (45 mins).

  • Post film guest speaker or a panel of women cycling advocates to discuss the theme of bicycles as women's freedom machines, across history and internationally. (Details TBD).

  • Edmonton Artist Jill Thomson will display some of her women cycling canvases.

  • Local urbanism, women's advocacy, cycling advocacy organizations, and City of Edmonton bike education teams (past) staff will be invited to contribute to a merch and info fair.

Bikeology Guild of Canada is committed to creating events that are accessible to all regardless of finances. As such, we are kindly requesting donations from the community to cover the cost of admission to the film screening. If you are interested in donating please contact the Metro Cinema directly.
