Edward Tulane is a rabbit of fine china—proud, elegant, and utterly vain. He lives a life of sheltered luxury until a cruel twist of fate tosses him from an ocean liner into the depths of the sea.

So begins a "miraculous" odyssey. Over decades, Edward passes from a grieving fisherman to a wandering hobo, and from a struggling child to a doll mender’s shelf. With every mile, Edward’s porcelain skin grows more scarred, but his cold heart begins to do the unthinkable: it opens.
