Ballad, Blues, and Boogie explores the intersection of wind band tradition and the soulful, rhythmic worlds of jazz and blues. With a guest performance by Calgary's Cappy Smart Band!

Edmonton Winds, under the direction of Raymond Baril, is proud to present Ballad, Blues, and Boogie, the final performance in their 2025-2026 season. The concert will take place on May 3, 2026, at the Westbury Theatre (ATB Financial Arts Barns, 10330 84 Ave NW) at 2 pm.

Ballad, Blues, and Boogie explores the intersection of wind band tradition and the soulful, rhythmic worlds of jazz and blues. The program highlights the versatile nature of the ensemble, featuring a mix of lyrical melodies and high-energy swing.

In a special highlight for this season closer, the program features a guest performance by the Calgary-based Cappy Smart Band under the direction of Earl Paddock . Originally formed in the late 1800s by Calgary Fire Department Chief James "Cappy" Smart, this vibrant community ensemble joins Edmonton Winds on stage to celebrate the next 50 years of wind band music in Alberta.

Featured performances include David Lovrien's Ballad, Blues and Boogie, showcasing the ERZ Trio, and Jeff Tyzik's Riffs, featuring soloist Ryan Pliska. The repertoire also includes classics such as Blue Moon (Rogers) and A Longford Legend (Sheldon).

Tickets for Ballad, Blues, and Boogie range from $5 - $20 and are available now from the Westbury Theatre box office.
